In 7th grade, my social studies teacher told me that even though I was interested in government, I couldn’t really make a difference until I was old enough to vote.
I remember thinking, “Oh yeah? Watch me.”
So I started writing letters to the editor, volunteering for campaigns (some of which won!), became a delegate, and was later elected President of the Governor’s Youth Advisory Council representing youth across Maryland. I ran my local political party’s youth club, managed my brother’s campaign for the House of Delegates, worked as a local radio and newspaper reporter, and was appointed to multiple commissions — all before I turned 18.
